I am a multimedia artist, blending sculpture and video to convey a political and social statement. My work speaks to a spectrum of injustices and discrimination, specifically in the portrayal of trauma within the LGBTQ+ community by those with corrupted power. My purpose is driven by firsthand experiences that are reflected in my work, targeting the morality of religious and political prosecutions against my community.
By exploring the psyche, the conscious and unconscious mind, of myself and other queer people through such times of stress, unique perspectives develop that I personify in my work.
I primarily work with digital media, emphasizing saturated colors blended with abstract imagery. When incorporating sculpture, / particularly enjoy displaying physical elements (fabrics, wire, plastic) alongside video projections on surrounding walls, ceilings, floors, and sculptures. One does not overtake the other, they work in harmony as video meets sculpture. The themes of political inequities, through the personification of the psyche, create dynamic compositions and immersive environments where viewers can confront difficult questions surrounding identity, power, morality, and injustice.
Recently, I have been influenced by other video installation artists such as Pipilotti Rist and Tony Oursler. Their approach to projected imagery and their use of a vivid color palette create an immersive environment that highlights their intention. As for my intentions, / challenge viewers to reconsider the boundaries between personal trauma and broader social realities, while creating space for empathy, awareness, and meaningful conversation.
